The HUD, or Head-Up Display, is the interface that you see to make your life in Rappelz a lot easier. I'll show you the full version of what you see and break each part down for you.
Now, this version is quite small and, because I'm using the default editor and it won't let me change the size of this stupid box, I'll have to settle for this. If you want the big picture, just click the picture.
The Upper-Left Hand Corner is the display with all the major information on it including your level, your Job Level, your EXP, your Stamina, your Job, your name, your pet's info, your HP, your MP, and a bunch of other good stuff.
This is a magnified version of it. In the top left corner in the bold yellow numbers is your level. As you can see, I'm level 68. I'm at full HP at the moment and used up a small portion of my MP to cast some buffs as you can see in the text area. The number below the MP is my EXP. At the moment, I have nearly nothing and so you don't get to see the EXP bar.
Now right below my level is my Job. The icon is for a Warlock and, lo and behold, it says Warlock.
Next to it is my Job level. Currently, I'm at Job level 20 which seems drastically lower than my real level. This difference will be explained later. Right next to that is my Job Points. Again, those will be explained later.
The EXP bar comes in a few colors. Depending on your Stamina, the EXP bar will either be red-orange, showing you have very little stamina. It can eventually turn white if you have enough stamina.
Stamina
Stamina is this thing that allows you to gain bonus exp/JP from a fight. With each kill you make, you get a bonus and your stamina decreases. When you have 0 stamina, you don't get any bonus. Normally when you gain exp and have little or no stamina, you won't gain that bonus and the text will look something like this.
You have gained 1200 EXP and 100 JP.
With a Stamina Bonus, this little addendum will be attached.
You have gained 1200 EXP and 100 JP.
(Stamina Bonus was 600 EXP + 50 JP)
The bonus really helps you in leveling. As you have noticed, the Stamina bonus that you gain is half the EXP/JP that you would normally gain from killing the monster. In this way, your exp is increased by 150%.
Stamina used usually varies from a little to a lot. While I don't know the exact formula for stamina deduction, it does seem to be a lot more used while you're killing by yourself.
By the way: The Rappelz website lies. Contrary to what they may say, you do NOT gain Stamina when you're not logged in. What they mean is, if you buy a cash shop item from them, you'll gain stamina when you're not logged in. Normal people who don't have tents (the item required) would not gain Sta while they're not online.
The Map in your upper right helps you navigate. It's set so that wherever you go, you'll be at the very center of the map. The map comes in a few pieces which will be explained to you below. Here is a selected version of the map:
This is the map. In the uppermost part it tells you the location you are at. In this case, I am in Needleleaf Forrest. The yellow arrow points in the direction my character is facing. The white triangular shape emanating from that arrow is the direction my camera is facing. Your camera and your character can be facing two completely different directions.
The + and - signs in the upper right hand corner help you zoom in and zoom out of the map. Depending on your need, you can zoom in and out to either get the big picture or see exactly where you're headed in detail.
The orange square is an NPC. For some odd reason, the NPCs, after you leave a town, clump to the right or left hand side even if they are not close to you on the map. It seems to be a glitch.
Party members will be represented as green squares for ease of finding your party members. Hovering over the squares will give you either the name of the NPC or the name of your party member.
Now if you hover your mouse over the mini-map in the upper right hand corner, this will pop up:
Tada. A bigger version of the mini map. Here you can see the name of things as well as a bigger view of the surrounding area.
Now if you want an even BIGGER version, pressing Alt+M will give you the entire world map.
And this pretty much sums up the map.
The really looooong bar at the bottom is just a reminder of all your hot keys. Here's a picture of the left half of the bar.
These are the hotkeys for F1 through F12. As you can see, F2 is the hotkey for "attack". To attack a monster, I simply select it and click F2, either pressing the button on my keyboard or moving my mouse and clicking the hotkey.
F3 is assigned to a skill, in this case, Windy Shackle.
F8 is assigned to an item, in this case, a Resurrection scroll.
Above the hotkeys is a space to enter text. This is the chat interface. The tabs above help to group each chat. If you click whole, you'll get text for just about EVERYTHING that happens. Watch.
As you can see, everyone is talking and everything is in different colors.
The first one is the shout. Your name is in blue-ish text while the rest of your text is in white-blue. You initiate shout chat by putting an "!" in front of your text. To say what I said above, I'd type this into the text bar.
!LFDP 68 DM. Already in CV1.
And it would do it automatically for me. Shout chat is seen by EVERYONE on the server.
The next type of Chat is General. The General Chat shows a little less than the Whole chat does. I usually keep my tab on the General Chat. You get to see Guild, Party, Ads, and EXP and Item notifications without all the junk that the whole chat would show you. General chat does not display shouts.
Party Chat is for talking to your party. It shows up in Green text. And it looks kind of like this.
To talk to your party only, you type a "#" in front of the text. So if you wanted to ask your party where they were, you'd type in something like this.
#Where are you guys?
And it'd do it for you. That's what the party tab is for; seeing just what your party is saying.
Finally, the most minimal (relative term if your guild talks a lot) chat is the Guild Chat. Guild members talk in purple as you can see above. Guild Chat doesn't show any notifications or anything else but guild chat and Whisper/PMs. I'll get to those later. To activate guild chat, you use a "%". So if you wanted to ask if anyone in your guild had time to come and help you, you'd type in something like this:
%Can anyone come help me kill this stupid boss?
And your guild would see the message.
Private messages are for only 1 person to see and it's the name you put in. Here, I'm having a little conversation with my friend.

To initiate this, I'd have to fill in the following formula.
"PersonName Message.
You start with a quotation mark, type in the person's name, and then your message. So, the message I sent to my friend would look something like this in the chat bar.
"KuKaze I was. I have to go buy something real quick.
And it would send her my message.
PROTIP: Press Up/Down to cycle through the various people you've PMed in a session on Rappelz. This is for your convenience so you don't have to keep typing in "personName all the time. The list resets every time you log on or off or switch characters.
Finally, the Ad chat shows ads. Ads are usually used for selling stuff but sometimes people use ads and whole chat interchangeably. To initiate ad chat, you'd put a "$" in front of your text. So if you wanted to sell a Red Potion, although you probably would never sell something this minor, you'd type in the following.
$WTS Lvl 4 Red Potion. PM Me.
By the way, WTS stands for Want To Sell. Just so you know. More acronyms will be explained in the terminology section.
TL;DR
For those of you who were too lazy to read all that above, here's a summary.
! ---- Whole Chat
$---- Ad Chat
#---- Party Chat
%---- Guild Chat
"PersonName ---- Whisper/PM
Here is the other half of the bar:
Now in the big version, you can see that there is a menu. I cut that out for now. You can click the menu to access certain commands although, in my opinion, it is much faster to just use the shortcuts.
Now on the left side, there are 3 options, CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT. Currently, it is set at Control. You have a total of 4 sets of hotkeys meaning 48 different combinations you can press to do different things. Pressing CTRL+F3 will cast Mana Burn, while pressing CTRL+F8 will activate my Quick Potion Deluxe. There are other combinations that are not shown here. You can set things on ALT+F6 or SHIFT+F3 if you wanted.
You don't need to press the shortcut for it to work though. Go ahead and try CTRL+F7. Quite a stretch for you fingers. Well, you can just click the icon and it should cast or use whatever you want for you. Saves you from a lot of unnecessary hand-pain.
Right above my hotkeys are my pet's hot keys.
Looks sort of like that. Now notice that your pet uses different keys. They use the number keys. So if I wanted to cast Healing Hands, I'd press ALT+2.
And that... is the entire HUD in a nutshell.
