Rappelz: A New Player's Guide

Quests

Quests are an essential in any MMORPG because they help alleviate the feelings of great boredom and despair in having to level by grinding for levels on end. Basically, it is a fresh detour off the grinding path. There are really only three types of quests. I'll be covering the Search-and-Destroy type, where you go out and kill monsters. There are other types such as the Collection quests where the objective is to find a certain object either on the ground or as a drop from a monster, or the Talking quests, my personal favorite because all you need to do is talk to an NPC for free EXP/JP. Let's begin.

The Quest

You get quests from NPCs that have a lightning bolt symbol floating above their heads. They look kind of like this:

Yup. The NPC is called Investigation Team Mio, which is odd because he's a one-man team. So sad. In any case, after you double click on him to talk to him, this pops up:

Now, at first, it just give a bunch of background that's riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. This one is... pretty decent as quests go. In any case, at the bottom, you get to see what kinds of rewards you get. No, you don't get both Force chips and Soul chips, you get to choose. The EXP reward weighs in at a hefty 228k while the JP is a generous 18k, rounded up of course. The Rupee is less than generous but most people do quests for the EXP/JP anyway, not the Rupee.

Now you have a choice to accept or reject the quest. Accepting is probably in your best interest; walking half-way through a desert infested with nasty monsters and bosses better pay off.

After you accept the quest, the NPC will then have a moon floating above his head where once there was a lightning bolt. Take a look:

Now, press the shortcut to open up the Quest menu: ALT+Q. You'll be presented with one of these.

The quest that I just got is not shown because it's at the bottom of the list, I just haven't scrolled down yet. In any case, this is kind of what it looks like. It shows you what monsters you have to kill, how many of them you have to kill, and how many of them you have killed. Clicking details will give you a dialogue much like the one presented to you earlier. All it does is list the quest, its objectives, and its rewards.

Now when you kill a monster that is required for your quest, a turquoise-blue dialogue will pop up on your screen to remind you how many you have killed. Here's what it looks like:

I just so happened to be leveling the same time I took this picture. =P

When you finish and go back to the NPC, he will have a sun-replacing where the moon used to be. Here's what it looks like.

 Then comes the reward screen:

Looks kind of like that. Now you have to click on the prize you want and click complete. Then you'll get your EXP,JP, and Rupee.

Now, here is just the confirmation written in text form in your chat window:

There are also quests that require you to pick up stuff. All you need to do is run around the area where it says to pick up stuff and look for things that are part of the scenery but sort of stick out, like treasure boxes, mushrooms, and plants.

That's pretty much all there is to quests.
